Laboratory Toxicologist

“I first joined as a Laboratory Associate for the Toxicology Department, where I performed assays to show our clients that we have reliable quality products. I then joined the Method Innovation Team, where I optimized existing methods as well as implemented new ones. I was then promoted to Laboratory Toxicologist where I continue to enjoy working with a variety of state-of-the-art analytical methods.”

My first position after joining the company in 2017 was as temporary replacement Laboratory Associate for a Toxicology Department within JT International. As a member of the Toxicity Testing Team, I performed cytotoxicity and genotoxicity assays to show our clients that we have reliable quality products. Our company provided a laboratory environment where I could utilize my university background in molecular biology and establish contact with Japanese colleagues. This opportunity to connect was additionally intriguing because I have always been interested in Japanese culture and TV series such as dramas and even variety shows.

Two years later, I transferred to the Method Innovation Team of the Toxicology Department. This changed the focus of my work toward optimizing existing methods as well as implementing and validating new toxicological assays.

In 2020 I was promoted to Laboratory Toxicologist where I enjoy working with a variety of interesting new techniques and instruments with the aim of providing our clients with a wide range of state-of-the-art analytical methods.

“I very much enjoy being part of the Method Innovation Team because of the chance to meet the challenges that come along with the implementation of new methods.”

I have not only learned a number of new techniques but also gained insight into the importance of adequate organizational structures and workflows required to maintain an ISO-accredited and GLP-certified laboratory. The knowledge and experience I have gained are vital in helping me to exceed expectations and requirements when optimizing our existing methods as well as implementing new ones.

Working in our Method Innovation Team has taught me to adapt techniques to changing method requirements in a timely manner. Opportunities to troubleshoot issues have also sharpened my analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.

Our company culture is quite open. Where I am located, we not only have the benefits of an Austrian approach to work, but we also are influenced by Japanese culture, and the two complement each other. I very much enjoy being part of the Method Innovation Team because of the challenge that comes along with the implementation of new methods. You have a goal in mind, but achieving it might be tricky, so you continuously adjust settings based on the obtained data, and you work by optimizing each step separately until you attain optimum results.

Communication is of course an important factor, and so is teamwork. If you are an open-minded, helpful person who can communicate with others and also focus on your own work, you will excel here; our company will provide the support you need, and your teammates will also always be available to help you succeed.

“During my time with our company, I have never heard the word ‘No.’ Instead, ‘Okay, let’s see how we can make it happen.’ So there are great opportunities to learn and grow.”

In the future, I would like to contribute to expanding the range of state-of-the-art toxicological assays we perform. The greater the range of analytical methods we provide, the higher the trust of our clients in the quality of our products. We want to create cutting-edge methods while ultimately thinking about our consumers and their confidence in our products.

I look forward to growing as part of One R&D and also hope to meet colleagues from different locations around the world so that we can learn from each other and share our views. I want to work with colleagues from around the company and experience different working styles as well.

During my time with our company, I have never heard the word “No.” Instead, “Okay, let’s see how we can make it happen.” So there are great opportunities to learn and grow, for example attending seminars and taking additional courses to further develop my skillsets. I would like to continue improving my abilities into the future.
