MEMBER INTERVIEW

I take care to proceed with work while also providing added value as a member responsible for coordination.

Support for RRP* product development planning and execution of development activities

I was involved in the development of analysis methods for main-stream smoke in a department responsible for product quality analysis when I entered the JT Group.

I was affiliated with a department responsible for product quality analysis after entering the JT Group in 2015. My duties included development and improvement of methods for analyzing the components contained in main-stream smoke from cigarettes and related numerical data by using equipment. Although I had performed analysis on food components in the Faculty of Agriculture at my university, this work was at the previous stage of developing analysis methods themselves. From 2017, I was temporarily assigned to a laboratory of a group company to which analysis was commissioned. While carrying out analysis myself, I was also engaged in managing the laboratory. From 2019, I transferred to my current position where I am involved in planning medium- and long-term strategies for RRP* development. In this work, I coordinate various related divisions as we proceed with projects.

What is important is to find one’s own answers, and to understand the significance and objectives of work.

I communicated actively with the members at my temporary assignment location. Since analysis work has a tendency to become simple labor, we held study sessions to solve issues we had set ourselves, in order to improve our individual analysis skills. While the members had previously just requested instructions on work, I was very pleased that after these study sessions, many more of them came to ask “This is what I think, but how about you?”, explaining the answers they had thought of themselves while also seeking advice on how to proceed.
Work for coordinating with divisions developing current RRP* often involves a stance of making requests to other parties, and there are many instances where I am asked “What is the purpose of this work?” In order to answer, it is important to understand the importance and objectives of my duties, such as how they will affect our company and contribute to business. I once again felt how important it is to proceed with work in a way that is convincing and acceptable to other involved parties. Moreover, I was able to broaden my own viewpoint further by coming into contact with many employees and crossing the boundaries of work divisions.

I am trying to refine work procedures that can offer added value and to improve my English skill, to contribute to operations with JT International.

I want to continue doing work that can provide added value, so that colleagues can tell me “I’m glad I asked you to do this.” Added value is content provided that goes beyond what has been requested, while having an understanding of its background. I will make efforts to provide such added value in all of my work.
I also wish to contribute to global development operations which involve coordination between JT and JT International (hereafter “JTI”). In order to do so, English language skill will be essential. While utilizing the R&D Group’s language study support program to attend an English conversation class, I am attempting to master my skills by measures such as holding team meetings in English. I want to expand the scope of my work by becoming able to communicate effectively with the members of JTI.
